Vital Information All About The Foods That Can Bring About Cancer

One saying goes "You become what you eat." It means whatever you put in your stomach will determine the kind of health that you will have. If you eat healthy foods, you become healthy, and if you eat junk, you will certainly become junk (or your health at least). One common health problem that can be caused by eating unhealthy foods is cancer. But what kind of exactly should one be eating in order to get cancer?

Eating meat can cause cancer. No, let me say that correctly, eating "processed" meat can cause cancer. And why is that? That is because processed meats are high in sodium nitrate, a chemical compound used as an additive for processed foods like meat. When combined, sodium nitrate and meat can produce NOC's or N-nitroso compounds. NOC's are known to cause different types of cancer.

Next to processed meats is salt. According to some experts, table salt should not be the one to worry about but salt that is used in pickled foods. The truth is salt is sodium chloride and sodium that comes from the ground cannot be processed properly by the human body. When eaten in excess, sodium chloride or salt can certainly cause cancer, heart attack and stroke.

A few years ago, there were some researchers that claimed potatoes contain chemicals that can be bad for the body when taken in large quantities. Well, just recently another study against eating potatoes came out stating that deep fried potatoes and potato chips contain acrylamide, a substance that when tested on lab rats proved to be cancerous. Fact or fallacy, you still don't want to settle on fried foods since they're not good for the heart.

You may be shocked with this one but fish can cause cancer! Well, not all kinds of fish because we all know the benefits we get from eating salmon and tuna. But you should certainly avoid fish that have high mercury content like swordfish, sharks and other large fish found in the ocean. Eating these types of fish can certainly cause serious health problems like cancer.

Actually, these types of food or any other food cannot directly cause cancer if you ask me. It is when you start to abuse them that they become harmful to your body. The general rule here is to consume food in moderate portions. And don't forget to include regular exercise and proper rest to your daily routine if you want to stay away from deadly diseases such as cancer.
