Ideas On Various Yoga Schools

In the west more and more schools teaching yoga and pranayam are coming up everywhere and people are taking to this hindu philosophy based practice that aims at balancing the body and mind in harmony as well as elevating the consciousness to a higher spiritual awareness. Yoga consists of breathing techniques, body postures both, sitting and standing postures combined with few cleansing rituals.

A few well known yoga disciplines are :

Ananda: This type is perfect for beginners as it does not require a lot of strength or flexibility neither involves any type of chanting. The movements are very simple.

Kundalini Yoga Practice: Involves awakening the energy in the body through concentrated breathing techniques. This was one of the earliest yogic systems to be introduced in the west.

Bikaram Yoga : Involves physical exercising combined with breathing technique, practiced under intense heat of around 100 degrees room temperature to help improve body flexibility. The asanas are 26 in number that are repeated several times.

Astanga Yoga : Involves building body movement co ordination, control and improve stamina with controlled movements and asanas covering different parts of the body.

Kripalu : Control of mind and body through breathing techniques and meditation techniques.

Integral : Basic body movement and flexibility postures designed for beginners without having to test ones limits. Very ideal for beginners who want an introduction to yoga philosophy.

Anasura : Consists of body posture and mind control to increase spiritual awareness.

Iyengar : Includes Therauptic asanans for treating various body ailments combined with use of various accessories like pillows, cushions, props for meditation, stretching rope etc to build body flexibility through exercises.

Yoga promotes the physical, mental and spiritual well-being in human society. Depending upon what you are looking for and your goal, appropriate system can be chosen as a practice and make further progress to higher practices.
