Meals Poisoning: Techniques To Control Them Properly

By Janice Ong

You found leftover food inside the fridge and reheated it inside the microwave. Upon eating, you noticed that the taste is a little different from the way it has been. You thought that since the food was inside the fridge for several days already and was reheated, it might not taste the same as it was. You were hungry so you decided to continue eating. After a couple of hours, you felt sick and your stomach felt bad, too. Then you started a visit in the comfort room. Few minutes later, you feel the urge to use the restroom again. These visits became so frequent that you do not want to leave the john anymore. A little later, you start to feel nauseous and you begin vomiting. This might be a case of food poisoning.

Eating leftover food that may already contain bacteria or toxins will surely result to poisoning. Improper handling of foods and poor sanitation can also lead to it. What is the best you can do to address the problem? Read below.

When you are affected by food poisoning, you are most likely to suffer from diarrhea. What you can do is increase your fluid intake. When you have diarrhea, you might get dehydrated. It is then best to take a lot of fluids. Water is best to keep you hydrated followed by clear liquids like apple juice. Suffering from diarrhea and vomiting can cause you to lose a lot of electrolytes (potassium, sodium and glucose). In this case, you should replace the lost electrolytes by taking commercially prepared products. You can also back up the lost electrolytes by taking up this recipe: Mix fruit (to replace the lost potassium) with - tsp of honey or corn syrup (to replace glucose) then add a pinch of salt (for sodium chloride).

Just go with the flow. Your body is trying flush out the toxins you have eaten that is why you are suffering from diarrhea. Taking anti-diarrheal products should be avoided because what you need to do at this time is to eliminate the toxins in your body.

After your body was able to get rid of everything, you will be able to feel better. You may start eating solid foods in small amounts as the body has just recovered from diarrhea. Avoid spicy food so as not to aggravate your condition.

Food poisoning is not that serious but if it can be fatal to elders with immune disorders. If you also suffer from diarrhea for more than two days, severe vomiting which means you cannot hold down any liquids, fever and difficulty in swallowing, then seek medical attention right away.
